I chose Property Management as a career because I want to build an investment portfolio of my own, and the best way to do that is to get involved in the industry and surround myself with people that are already doing it.
Property Management is a role where you’re constantly learning and being challenged. Legislative changes and government expectations are more frequent these days, so being able to transition quickly while offering the best support to landlords and tenants is vital.

Property Management is a busy role; it’s easy to be reactive and “headless”, so the challenge is in keeping ahead of the game, predicting where the workload and challenges will be coming from and getting on top of things before they become issues. Fortunately, I love being organised, so it’s a role I thrive in.
I LOVE helping caring tenants that have outgrown their current properties find new homes. This happens more often than you think. It’s such a good feeling 1. saving the tenant time and stress house hunting 2. telling an owner you have minimised their vacancy and expenses by finding a tenant without advertising and 3. retaining those quality tenants and relationships
I enjoy working with owners to renovate (or just “facelift” budget depending) a property during vacancy to help maximize rents and returns (without overcapitalising of course). For example, I had a property recently that had an outdoor rumpus room that wasn’t fit for sleeping. I contacted council to confirm compliance, arranged insulation and other compliance checks which then turned their 3 bedroom property into 4 – helping increase their rent by $80pw all for a few hundred dollars.
One of the things that I love about my job is the people we meet. We’re always professional but it’s nice to have a chat with tenants about their upcoming holiday or their new lounge suite. Little interactions like that are lovely and make my role more enjoyable.
At Glasshouse, we have such great support (technology and admin) and we will always do what’s right to get the best outcome for everyone – and have support from management to do so.
It’s a great feeling to know that you’re making a difference, and giving your best everyday.
