My career in Property Management began out of concern for my Grandmother, who was an investor. She was having a tough time with her portfolio. The properties entrusted to a large Hamilton based agency were in poor condition, attracted low rent and disrespectful tenants. Compounding this were ongoing issues with vacancy, resulting in poor cash-flow, low returns and considerable stress.

I immediately stepped in to help her. I knew very little at the time, but was active in the Waikato Property Investors Association, and had huge support from experts in the industry like Scotney Williams of the Tenancy Practice Service. I had to learn fast and ‘on the job’ if I was to turn her portfolio into a profitable business.

I soon learnt that Property Management was an industry that needed to change, and I wanted to help lead that change, so that is what inspired me to create Glasshouse. Glasshouse properties are quality properties, and we care for them as if they were our own. From first hand experience, I saw how cared for properties attract caring tenants and better investment outcomes.

Investing that little bit more into ensuring a home is warm, comfortable and enjoyable really does pay for itself in the long run with less issues, higher occupancy, lower tenant turnover and better returns. It is this model that enables us to facilitate positive rental experiences for both landlords and tenants.

In just 12 years we’ve grown from a one client business, to a portfolio of almost 1000 properties. A strong duty of care, and a desire to create positive rental experiences for both landlords and tenants is what has spurred that growth.

Today, I am still hands-on in the business, as that’s how I like to work but I’m also very fortunate to have the support of a fantastic team of capable professionals, who share my philosophy of caring for both landlords, their properties and tenants.

Although I am proud of the growth we’ve achieved in such a short period of time, I’m most proud of our team culture and the shared values we all aspire to. This I truly believe is our point of difference, and what makes the Glasshouse rental experience such an enjoyable and successful one for all.
